Location-based Services
Location-based services bring information on the location of a user’s mobile device to the mobile applications, serving the consumer and enterprise demands. In LBSs there are at least two entities involved; A user who requests and consumes an LBS, and a target, whose location is requested for LBS provisioning. In self-referencing LBSs, the user and target coincide, while cross-referencing LBSs exploit the location of the target for service-provisioning of another user. In order to obtain the location information of a mobile device, the built-in GPS of the device, or network information, or a hybrid approach can be adopted.

Tracking:
In tracking applications geographical coordinates of the mobile device will be sent to a tracker. This can be performed in an active or passive manner. One of the previous projects undertaken by Telehanced in this area was for clients that have field staff. This solution helped the clients to improve efficiency and security by using real-time location information about the staff in the field.
Our tracking technology can be customized to offer various other applications such as:
- Tracking school children: an application which can inform the parents about the location of their children, and can send alerts when they arrive at school or home.
- Friends and family finder: a useful tool for family members and friends to receive updates from each others locations.

Navigation/ Live traffic information:
We are developing the next-generation navigation systems, which utilizes the Internet and network information to provide a rich experience for the users. The applications include personal navigation, route guidance, traffic information, targeted congestion avoidance for urban/road traffic control agencies.

Location-aware services, provide information about the surroundings of a mobile device. The local information can be used for different purposes. For example:
- Consumers can find information about the local businesses, shopping centers and restaurants.
- Users can get local news, sport reports, travel/tourism advice using the application and to stay abreast of the ongoing events in the neighborhood.
- Legal authorities can use the service to send localized messages such as weather alerts, warnings, etc.
